Sweet Vada (Vadevu)
It’s our first sweet.. This is a traditional sweet. Nutrient and taste will be amazing in this.
Let’s Start making it now…
Required Ingredients :
- Urad dal – 1 kg (skin removed)
- Coconut – 2 cups
- Cumin – 50g
- Sugar (a) Candy stone – required quantity (1kg dal: 1/2kg sugar)
(This can also be done with only urad dal and sugar…)
Recipe:
- Soak urad dal in water for 15 minutes.
- After soaking, filter the urad well and keep it separately.
- Grind urad dal, coconut, cumin seeds by adding little amount of water by checking the watery state of grinding paste.
- Do not pour too much water. When it comes in a foam form, put the required amount of sugar (a) sugar in the grinding machine and let it grind for few more minutes.
- Transfer the batter to a separate bowl.
- Pour oil in the pan and after it heats well, pat it in a small amount with your hand like a vada (donut) and put it in the pan.
- From soft red in color, fry until well browned.
Here is the hot sweet urad vada ready..
We can eat it, as it is or you can have this in very special way as follows….
Mash it with banana and add some drops of ghee in it. Now it tastes like a delight you never had before.
A few people call this “Vadevu”. This is their signature dessert.
This sweet plays an important role in a woman’s diet, especially when she attains puberty and gets married. We can say that without this sweet, they do not start any special events.
Especially before the marriage, there is a function called Nalungu. In that this sweet plays major role the feast will be given by their brothers of their mother. We call them as Thai maman.
